Tim would wake up in the guest room, at first he didn't realize he was in the future. But that realization came right quick as his splitting headache came. Glancing around as he slowly sat up he'd groan realizing now had happen. He wasn't going anywhere, not with this headache. Hopefully it'll subside soon. If this is the future, maybe there was a discovery of some kind of super aspirin. Outside his door, he could hear at least one person hovering around. That wasn't the butler, his footsteps were even. Nor was it Helena, her footsteps were heavy and 'clicky' with her heels.
Now, it was just a matter of time before someone came to visit him now that he was awake.
~~
“Damien.” Helena said as she came up behind her son lurking around Tim’s door. She hadn’t told him exactly what was going on or who the young man in the costume that looked very similar to the one behind glass was. She’d tell him, when she could sort out exactly what to tell him in her head.
Her footsteps were light, lacking the click of heels that he remembered. Balancing the tray of food in one hand she opened the door and stepped inside, pulling it closed behind her. Setting down the tray beside him on the table she nodded to the tray. “There’s aspirin and an iron tablet, you lost a lot of blood last night, it’ll help.”
Walking away from him she moved to the window, pulling the drapes open. She was dressed in workout pants and a t-shirt, arms bare and her midriff peeking through every now and again. Even at nearly fifty she was almost as fit as she had been twenty years ago, save for more scars than he’d ever seen on his version of Helena.
~~
Looking over to the table, taking the water and then the asprin and tablet. He'd be quiet for a moment, unsure what to say. She'd get the feeling that he was totally out of his league. "Look. About last night…." trailing off trying to find the words to say. Stephanie had been helping him on apologizing and being sincere and not biting the head off everybody. (No matter how stupid they seem). "I want to apologize….. It… wasn't my place to question you. You were right. I don't know all the facts." pursing his lips as he looked down, fidgeting with the blanket a little. "I wasn't thinking clearly…"
~~
Turning back toward him she regarded him carefully, there was no doubt that she was a powerful force in the board rooms now that were her battlefields. She’d had one hell of a mentor when it came to being intimidating, both from Slade and from Bruce. She took a deep breath in and let it out slowly, deflating slightly, losing some of that edge.
She clicked her teeth once together before stepping away from the window, crossing her arms, hugging herself. “I shouldn’t have lost my temper either, for that I apologize. Somethings never change. You should eat something.”
She was silent for another minute s she walked across the room, moving to take a seat in one of the chairs near the bed. “I talked to Fate about a spell that would send you back but it will be some time before he can have it ready. Fate seems to think that you’re going to be a big help to me in the coming weeks. He agrees with you, says that it’s time for heroes to step back up and that I should apparently train them.”
~~
Looking over at the tray, he'd grab the small sandwich and take a bite. "What is the situation with Gotham, Helena? I got jumped by 3 Gangs. At once. They worked together, that's very rare. Even from where I came from." it was true, Gangs didn't work with each other if they could help it. None the less try to stomp the life out of him.
Pursing his lips, he'd take a deep breath.
"But, I can't disagree with him on that. The city is ruins, Crime is common place." saying as he turned to look at her "And you would be the best to train them, Helena. The World needs it's heroes. Now more than ever. I understand you don't want your son involved. And I can't blame you for that. Here's my question to you though.
If he wanted to try and make the city safe for his own child, would you stand in his way?"
~~
“The mob took over for the most part. Two Face and Joker had the most control for the longest time, Two Face is still around but Joker hasn’t been seen in a few years now. We’re not sure what happened to him. There’s other factions out there too but those are the biggest. Anyone with a mask, the gangs tend to put aside their differences and just kill whoever it is.”
She rested her hands on the arms of the chair, crossing her long legs.
“What worries me most is that they’re still young. Granted we were all young, it’s just different now. The world isn’t the same now. At least we had moments of calm. I’m so worried that I’m going to do nothing but teach these kids how to die.
“You realize that’s a catch twenty two question. I wanted to keep my own child safe but how can I do that and tell him he can’t for his future.”
~~
Giving a nod as he would listen.
"Do you think Bruce thought about that when he trained me? Or Dick?" asking "We knew what we were getting into. Sure, times of changed. The world is dangerous. But it's not anymore dangerous to someone when they first start. That first year." taking a deep breath as he pushed the covers off to the side and slowly swung his legs over the edge as he leaned back to grab some water and take a swig from the bottle. Licking his lips. "The danger will always be present. " taking a deep breath as he put the bottle off to the side and slowly pressed his feet on the ground testing to see if he could stand. Which he could, but it was shaky. Slow. Walking to the window, he'd look out it. "When Bruce started training me, I ventured out on my own one night, after he told me not too." watching the rain come down, it was cold outside. Winter was well on its way. "I got myself into some deep trouble fighting against the Joker. Almost killed me. After he saved me, he brought me back to the cave to get stitched up. He told me that he wasn't training me so that I could go out there and die. That he was training me so that I would live."
~~
“You’d be surprised was he thought about when training you and Dick.” She smiled slightly. “We talked about it once. It was teach you everything he could or let you go out there without anything. He gave you the tools, what you did with them was your choice.”
She let out a deep breath as she lifted a hand to rub her forehead then trail her fingers back over her smoothed back hair of her pony tail. “The harder part for me in this is most of these teenagers and young adults I’ve either raised from children or watched them grow up. Bruce found both you and Dick as teenagers, you where already grown. While he did think of both of you as his son there’s still something different.”
She was silent for a moment, a haunted look in her blue eyes. “What scares me most is that maybe Gotham will take my son from me just like everyone else I’ve ever loved.”
~~
Turning slightly, he'd move up behind her, gently placing his hand on her shoulder. Giving it a squeeze. Unsure what to say, trying to find the words. "What would Bruce do, Helena?" asking "That's what you have to ask. How did he send children out to fight? Possibly to their deaths? Not once, but twice." moving around her to sit on the bed as he touched his stitches then lowered his hand.
"You say I have a daughter, right?" asking as he thought about it for a moment. "I can't feel the same about my daughter as your son. But, knowing that someone is out there carrying my name, my very essence? I wouldn't want them to go out and fight either."
"I wouldn't ask them to, I wouldn't force them either." licking his lips. "If they asked, I don't know if I'd stop them either."
~~
“I don’t know.” She said with such honest sincerity it was painful to even hear. “I wish I could say I did. Maybe I’m just holding on to tightly. I know I can’t protect him or anyone else forever. I’m just not the same person I used to be.” She reached her hand up, touching his for a moment before letting it drop back down onto the arm of her chair.
“I don’t know if I can train them well enough. I don’t know if I can be everything they need me to be. I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore. “
~~
"No. You're not the same person." moving so that he was sitting on the bed, infront of her. "You're a mother, an ex-wife. The Helena I remember wouldn't have been caught dead with either." giving her a smile "I'll help you out also." nodding as he looked down at the floor then back up at her "You can only train them so much, the streets will teach them the rest." Shifting, he'd lean back a little "These kids are the next generation, Helena. Think about this. What if they don't die? What if they prosper? They take Gotham back. Clean up the streets. People are no longer scared that they might get shot or mugged on the way to work. Don't you think that's worth the chance?
"Spring Chicken or not, You're in great shape. I'm sure you still remember a lot of your moves." giving a smile over to her.
~~
“I never saw myself as getting married either but who says no to the goddamned Batman?” Her mouth twitched up in the corners, trying hard not to smile though she failed. “I didn’t expect a lot of things that happened to me in those years but I can say that marrying Bruce and getting pregnant were two of the best things ever to happen to me. Somehow I think Damien will frustrate you. He’s very… calm, serious, and heart of gold. I still can’t figure out where that came from.”
She looked up at him nodding slightly. “There’s two sides to every coin, Tim. Just trying to think of everything. Gives me more to worry about.”
Smirking she shrugged. “I still know a few. “
~~
"Yeah. Sounds like he'll get under my skin." grinning "Like his father. I crack a joke and he doesn't even break a smile. You know how hard I have to try just to get him to smile?" snickering "I was on patrol with him once and I went in first to Riddler's Warehouse. We fight his posse, I make my way over to Nigma and after a few ducks and weaves, I break his nose and break his jaw in three places. He smiles." shaking his head with a small grin.
"I know you'd worry about them. But don't too much. Leave that up to someone else, feel confident that you trained them well enough. That's all you can hope for. It's like raising your kid, Damien. You instill him with lessons and things he should and should not do. Then you have faith that he will be okay." smiling softly "They'll all be okay. Just need to have faith."
~~
“Sounds like your Bruce and ours wasn’t that different. It’s been almost twenty years since he died and I can still remember him perfectly. I still love him the same. It’s part of the reason I never remarried.” She laughed softly, shaking her head.
“Yes but while I may have faith in him, my faith in all the things out there that want to kill him is lacking.” She pushed herself to her feet, her hands moving to rest on her hips. “Shower is through there if you want to get cleaned up, I’ll have Daniel drop you off a change of clothes”
~~
Moving up to Helena, he was shorter than her but not by much. "Whatever you decide to do, I will support you." telling her with a smile as he placed his hands on her shoulders "Bruce would just want you to do what was best." it was sincere from him. Moving past her, he'd move into the bathroom closing it softly behind him.
Now, it was just a matter of time before someone came to visit him now that he was awake.
