She’d gotten up early, checked in Tim who was thankfully still asleep. She couldn’t handle another screaming match with him at the moment and frankly she didn’t want Carmen or Damien to overhear it either. Calling the office she said she wouldn’t be in till later and leaving Daniel at home to take care of Tim she left in her personal car.
One quick stop later and another ten minutes and she was stepping out of her car onto neatly trimmed grass. The air still had that fresh early morning scent to it, something she hadn’t smelled in a long time, or at least bothered to stop and smell. Years ago she’d smelled it coming home after long nights out, but those days were long over.
Walking carefully across the grass she picked her way through the gravestones, pausing at a line of them to set down bundles of roses, yellow for all of them save for one which got red. She knelt in front of that one, her hand trailing over the name and sighed softly. “I wish you were still here, you’d know exactly what to do right now.”

He had been in the Tower after looking in on Cheyenna. He was looking over everything through the Eye of Fate to make sure that he wasn't wrong about the time getting closer. He had watched Helena and young Timothy's fight and understood the young man's frustrations about everything going as they had. He didn't know what they had sacrifieced for a chance of hope living through all they had lost. He knew Tim being here now was one of the signs it was getting close to the time for Heroes to walk the earth again.
With that in mind he knew he had to talk to Helena about all of it and her role in things to come. He knew she would not like it since it did involve her own son, but sometimes we had to do things that we did not like for the greater good. Using a simple spell he left the tower and appeared a few graves down from where she was. He stepped out from behind the head stone and walked down to where she was kneeling in front of the grave. "I think if he was still around the world would have been a brighter place." He stood there in his large brown tench coat with his hands in his pockets looking to her. He looked a moment at the other graves at all there fallen friends and comrades
~~
She was lost far enough in thought that she didn’t hear him until he was right behind her. Dangerous but she had a lot on her might. She shouldn’t have lost it on Tim like she had but she was worried about Damien. She remembered the Tim from their time all to well and the crazy things that he’d talked her into doing once upon a time. Damien didn’t need much urging to try to follow after his father’s foot steps.
She turned her head to the side to look back at him. After a moment she stood, smoothing her skirt down her legs and crossing her arms. “At least our world around here would have been.” She hugged herself tighter. “I take it you’ve seen what happened. How do we send him back?”
~~
"I am already working on a way of sending him back to his proper place in time, don't worry it will be as if he never left and I will wipe his memory as well so he has no knowledge of this place or tries to change events as he sees they should be changed. But his being here is not an accident Helena. He is one of the signs I told you and the others about twenty years that would herald the return of heroes to his world." He knew she didn't want to hear this but it was a matter of truth and she had to be ready for what came next.
"We are getting closer to the time that they are all going to have to be brought together and told the truth of why we laid down our masks and stopped fighting and what they can do to help bring the world out of this Long night we have found ourselves in these last twenty years." He understood all to well not wanting a child to get into the fight. Even though Rex was not his by blood he had raised him as if he was his own son and loved him just that way. He didn't want him in this battle to come, but he understood that Rex was going to be needed in his own way. Just like each and everyone of them were needed.
~~
“Good, he doesn’t deserve to be here.” She let out a heavy sigh. Kent perhaps new better than most the weight of guilt she still carried on herself. Many of those that were still alive carried something similar, hers more so concidering her previous relationship with the man responsible for bringing the end to most of the heroes in the world.
“It’s Tim, how can he be the one to help bring them back?” She was still determined to keep her son out of the fighting when it came down to it. “He’s the same arrogant little mouth that our Tim used to be.”
Shaking her head she turned away from him, walking a few steps. “You should talk to Ramsey then, he’s been cataloging information for a while.”
~~
"I didn't say he was the one to bring them back. Just that he was a sign that herald the return. What it is going to take to bring them back is a Strong mentor who knows what it is like be on these streets. They need you." He looked right at her face and knew that she was not going to like it, but he had already seen that she was the one to help guide them. "You are the one that will train them Helena, they need someone like you who was trained not only by Bruce, but by Slade as well. You have a unique perspective in fighting that they are going to needed to win this fight."
"Ramsey is another on my list of making sure he is in the right place at the right time, but he like the rest of them is just one more fighter to this battle. And he has a lot of his mothers spirit to him which means he may not work that well with a group that are younger then him." He did not think Ramsey would be the one to lead them, he still couldn't see who that one was yet, but he knew the one that was needed would rise when the time was right for them. Once they were together one would stand up and lead.
~~
She looked back at him, her eyes narrowing slightly as she gave him a glare. “You can’t ask me to do that. If I’m training other people I can’t say no to my son. He’s the only family I have left in the world, I’m not letting him get killed out there on the streets like every other Wayne. I swear this city is cursed when it comes to that bloodline.” She paused before continuing. “And them who? None of us want our kids mixed up in the same things that we were doing at their ages.”
“Ramsey will most likely be the next DA when the current one manages to piss off enough people that he’s killed and thankfully, Ramsey isn’t so easily hurt. He’s been running surveillance on a lot of people of the last few years. I gave him access to the batcaves computer systems five years ago. He is his mother’s son but thankfully he has enough of his dad’s even temper too.”
She reached a hand up, rubbing her forehead. “I’m not ready for this, Kent. There are better people still out there than me. “
~~
"Weather you like it not Helena, Damien is apart of this as well. He has yours and Bruce's spirit in him. When the others start to gather he will feel the same pull as them. And you are the only one that can do this" He watched her knowing she hated this knowledge. "You really think I want Rex out there, I raised the boy since before he could walk, he is like my own son. But I also have to still be Doctor Fate in this and my role in that is to keep the balance. They will tip the scales again and be able to inspire people again. It will be a very hard fight but they have the spirit and the fire to carry it forward. But they need us to show them the way, including Damien. They have all shown themselves already, Sophia, Bobby, Caleb, Elle, Daimen, Kalvin, Cheyenna, and Rex. The are this worlds only hope of coming out of the Long night. If we don't show them the path they could go out on their own and make mistakes that could get the killed or worse. Our enemies are not going to tolerate heroes again. They have been ruling from the Shadows these last twenty years. They are not going to risk losing that power to a bunch of untrained heroes."
"Ramsey will be a force to be reckoned with, but he is just one. He will need their help to bring our enemies to justice." He had never shared everything with Helena that he had seen. It was not her burden to know the currents of time like it was his. He knew of something things that were coming and some were still blocked to him.
"I know you are not ready for this Helena, but there is no one else. You are the Mentor, the one to train them as heroes. From you they will learn what men like Bruce, Diana and Kal-EL stood for and fought for. Justice must Rise again Helena"
~~
She listened to him at least, it was better than some of their previous conversations where she’d just walked away. She still had her temper, that wasn’t likely to ever go away which lead to wonder what she’d be like in another twenty years. She was still the same hard headed woman and there were moments, even as rare as they were these days that it was easy to see Huntress in her.
“Eight people aren’t going to change the world, Kent.” She said softly, turning back to look at Bruce’s grave and the graves of the rest of the bat family.
“I have to get to work. Keep working on a way to return this Tim back to his home.” She turned to start walking back toward her waiting car.
~~
"They are the spark that starts the flame Helena. Remember what Bruce felt, he believed one man could make a difference in a dark city. One many could be a beacon of hope. These Eight are not just going to be a beacon for Gotham, but for the world as a whole." He knew it was hard for her to accept, but already things were moving into place, Damien was already trying to spread his own wings and be like his parents It was only a matter of time before he took to the streets to try and make a diffence in the city.
He let her walk away pondering his words to her. It would be enough for now, things were not yet ready for the eight of them to gather and be made one, but it was getting closer. He still had to make sure the others were in there proper place and ready for the next stage of things.
