I'm going to keep this in point form.
- the five families ruled New York up Until 1982, during the first American Mattanza (mafia war) When the current Don (Salvatore Punchinello) unified the remnants of the five families into one single entity under himself. This singular crime family is, of course, known as the Punchinello Crime Family. This is really the only important 'historical' fact you'll need to know.
- 2005, Eduardo Ferrari, the son of a powerful Mafia Don in Rome made the move Stateside bringing with him a hefty gift to buy himself into the good graces of Punchinello. It works, Punchinello accepts Eduardo as a "man of honor" (made man) and Eduardo eventually works his way up to the highly placed rank of Capo.
- 2007, Eduardo feeling the winds of change, tries to strike a bargain with the Yakuza to align themselves behind a new regime lead by himself. The Yakuza agree but Eduardo is betrayed by one of his closest confidants. Punchinello strikes swiftly, murdering Ferrari and most of his followers in a single night. Some managed to flee back to Italy where they were given safe haven.
- 2013, Five years after the 2007 "second" American Mattanza, the Ferrari clan ruling in Italy decide they want to repair the damages done to their alliance with the Punchinellos by sending their don's only remaining daughter, Francesca Ferrari, to New York to marry Don Punchinello's middle child, Marcus. But is everything as it seems? Is Francesca, though a civilian, really willing to marry into the family that murdered her brother?
Note: Arranged marriages are common in this SL amongst mafia clans, in fact, its rare for them to marry outside their circle. Certainly they NEVER marry outside of their Italian/Catholic communities, and those that do, are usually disowned, not just byt heir family, but by the entire community. Many chalk this up to xenophobia and racism, which to some degree, for some people, it might be, but the emphasis is more on maintaining Italian cultural heritage rather than dislike of others.
Note 2: For sake of fun and ease, the Mafia in our Sl is an equal opportunity organization when it comes to sex and sexuality. YOu MUST, however, be a fullly blooded Italian to be "made", thus, while their may be non Italians on the fringes of the mafia clan they will never truly be one of them. They are merely associates. Associates, however, make up the majority of their street force. Made Men make up a very small percentage of the organization and only the best, brightest, and vicious ever make it to be made, to be called a Man of Honour.
