Synopsis: Hades contemplates recent actions and considers reaching out to his niece, Cassandra to offer some perspective and perhaps some advice.
-----
There was something to be said about being summoned to Mount Olympus. It was not his home, not his abode. He did not belong here anymore than his brother, but when matters such as gods interfering with the lives of mortals are brought to such a high ‘court’ they came. They came not because there was something to say, but more to the matter there was something to observe, something to here, something to consider.
He did not stride into the hall to approach the others instead he lingered in the shadow deciding not to announce himself. No doubt everyone present was aware of his arrival. He kept to himself only the slow burn of the pipe directing anyone’s attention to him. He caressed it tenderly while listening to the words that were being spoken on behalf of the ‘victim’.
Victim was an interesting choice of words as Cassandra was far from a victim in a true sense. She was simply a casualty of her father’s loins. Pity that Hades would think of his niece in such a manner, but it was a true statement. Her mother had been unable to resist his brother’s charms. Considerable would be pushing it, but Hades knew his brother and what he desired he usually got even if for a brief moment. He claimed he loved them all, but it was more like he was in lust with them all. He took them all without considering the consequences believing that this time his wife would be kind in response to his dalliance.
He was god of the sky not the faithful. He was as fleeting a storm and their sister should understand that. Perhaps she did but she could not leave him any more than a fish could the ocean. She was tied to him, willing and unwilling it was what it was and there was nothing that could be done about that. The Lord of the Underworld knew all about the bonds of love, marriage and everything that existed in between. He himself had taken that which did not belong to him and chained her to his side through the rules of his own realm.
However, that is neither here or there. Instead he focused upon the words that were being spoken so eloquently by the his nieces current advocate. Would he go as far to say champion. Awkward as it must be given Diana’s mother’s place in his sister’s eyes. There was none more devoted to Hera than Hipployta, interesting that her daughter stood in the way of a most honored patron of her people.
Hera’s will shall be done. Perhaps not. Death of a beast that should have not been unleashed upon an unsuspecting people. It’s doubtful that anyone would ever suspect that a behemoth would carve its way through the earth and cause moderate amounts of damage on the surface. The thought alone caused a curve to his lips while he continued to smoke the pipe. His eyes closed while the fragrant smoke reached his senses. He could only think about what would come next.
An Amazon sticking her nose where it did not belong, in the defense of child of Zeus. Interesting that none of the other little bastards did anything to help their sister. Perhaps they see her as another contender someone that could replace them, but she’s merely part of what they are, but she is divine, because she has been touched by the divined. It lives within her and even though she is beginning to come into her heritage only time will tell if she will truly ascend to the heights of the others.
Perhaps that is what they wish to see or perhaps they simply wanted her to be stamped out of existence before she could become a threat, sibling rivalry at its best, nothing new to Hades given the various disputes that have occurred between his own siblings.
They were often the family no one wanted, but family is family and unlike friends you never got to choose whether or not they were a part of your life they simply were.
His sister would never acquiesce. This is what she did. It was written into her flesh, her blood, her very essence. She had to contend with the fact that she would never be enough and that her husband would always have others, his whores. That he would always extend himself literally and figuratively to those that would have him. He never be denied because his ego would not allow it. He could be whatever he wanted, whoever he wished. How could someone say no to him once he set his mind to something?
Dangerous and reckless as he was the others always had to deal with his actions in one way or another. He would not interfere until he felt that he was losing face. When he needed to assert his ‘authority’ upon the others then he would be what he needed to be, king. He would shout and attempt to make them feel inferior. They would be reminded who he was and what he represented, as every king as their day, but they also have their time and despite his lengthy reign even Zeus would find winter upon him.
The cold chill of wind would touch his bone and the dim light of day would send the beginning of the end. However, today was not that day and he did not seek to interfere with his wives actions. Shenanigans would be another world for what she has done. However the moment Cassandra came to be the bell could not be unrung and now that she has come into her birthright she is no longer hidden from all. She is now tossed upon the world for all to see friends and enemies alike and unfortunately the latter outnumber the former, which isn’t a bad thing in some cases.
Their voices were all around him, not because they were talking to him they were simply voicing their own opinions, but he remained uncharacteristically silent. Truth be told what could he say that had not been said already. What would he say that would change the course of things to come? His sister desired a pound of flesh and she would have it one way or another. This was the creature she was. Her pain was raw and quite real, but it would not be hers to share alone. She would ensure that the world shared it with her…one way or another.
Still, as always opportunities presented themselves and perhaps it was time to see how far this one would take him. Besides he had a niece to reach out to. They were family after all.
